Hospice Nurses exceptional fundraising secures Companion Bed

We are so incredibly proud to share that thanks to the dedication and determination of our incredible team of hospice nurses alongside such generous support from so many valued donors and the wider community - the fundraising target was reached to enable the purchase of a Companion Bed which has now arrived at our In-Patient Unit.

This remarkable bed, designed to extend and enable loved ones to cuddle up close and lie next to one another, will make an enormous difference for patients and families when here with us; it offers not just enhanced safety and comfort with the technology it offers but also the simple, powerful gift of closeness, without barriers, when it truly matters most.

To all our nurses who went the extra mile to fundraise over the last few months, hosting many great events and to every supporter who gave so generously to enable us to reach this significant target: thank you, from all at St David's Hospice Care. Because of you, we can continue to bring dignified, comprehensive and compassionate care to those facing life-limiting illnesses.

Summer Solstice Charity Walk

Taking place on Saturday 21st June we held our Summer Solstice Charity Walk at Twmbarlwm. One of the oldest festivals in the UK, the Summer Solstice is celebrated on the longest day to mark the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer - A BIG thank you to all the staff and volunteers who came along and supported.

We had over 300 walkers register to take part to help raise the vital funds we require to provide our free services. The evening included captivating performances from Anna Young as walkers head off and Matthew Barlett Bagpiper at the summit, amongst the setting sun.

Jamie's 24hr Kayak to the Sea

On the 14th June Jamie took on an immense challenge: A 24hr Kayak to the Sea in support of St David's Hospice Care: Paddling 70 miles in 26 hours, over 40 hours of no sleep and over £2,600 raised!

Starting at 3am in the morning, Jamie started his route from Bedford down to Kingsland where it meets the sea. In the months leading up to the day - Jamie was dedicated to training, kayaking 8 to 10 hours per week, up to in the final few weeks 12-15 hours of training per week, with 20, 30 and 45 mile trips.

Thank you Jamie - you are a Hospice Hero. Every mile paddled and every pound raised has made a profound impact, helping us to continue providing vital care and unwavering support to patients and their families when faced with a life-limiting illness.

Hedyn Dalmatian Bike Ride 2025

The Hedyn Dalmatian Bike Ride returned this year, taking place on Saturday 7th June - with a choice of 5 routes and the new Dalmatian Walk there was something for everyone. Finishers and spectators alike enjoyed the ‘Finish Festival’ at The Priory as well as the ever-amazing Dalmatian Raffle supported by Evans Electrical LTD with many incredible prizes to be won.

All money raised from the Dalmatian Bike Ride 2025 goes towards the continued work of St David’s Hospice Care. Thank you to all sponsors and all involved in a great day.

Fundraising In Loving Memory of Heather Powell

It was lovely to meet Lucy, Amy, Eleanor and Matilda at the hospice recently to thank them for incredible fundraising in aid of the hospice over the last few years - In Loving Memory of Heather Powell.

The family noted - Our family was really grateful to St David’s hospice for all the incredible support given to our mum. The hospice made an extremely challenging period that little bit more bearable. Heather was so comfortable during this final chapter of her life, everyone was so kind and considerate. As a family, we felt the most meaningful way to honour Heather’s memory was by supporting the hospice that cared for her so well during her final weeks

A few months after Heather passed, our Dad organised a Portugal golf trip for friends. In exchange for organising it, Dad asked them to consider making donations to the hospice again in Heather’s memory.

We then had a final bout of fundraising when Ellie and her partner Jacob ran the Wimbledon half marathon, enabling us to reach £26,000 in total. The money is really a testament to what a wonderful person Heather was.

Brecon to Newport fundraiser in aid of hospice care

On Saturday 21st June , fantastic supporter Joel took on an incredible 40 mile canal trek from Brecon to Newport, raising vital funds for St David's Hospice Care!

The day entailed completing 44 miles in just under 12 hours - leaving Brecon Basin just after 7am to start the trek back to Newport along the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal, arriving just in time for sunset - what a challenge!  Over an incredible £560 has been raised so far - an amount that will make a meaningful impact to the hospice, helping us to continue being there for those who need us. Fantastic volunteers help the hospice prepare our gardens for Summer

At the beginning of June, Sue and Rob from Barclays, Newport kindly volunteered their time in our hospice gardens with Tony.

The Sun also came out for the team from Lloyds Banking Group as they kindly volunteered at our gardens. Both teams are helping to make a huge difference in our hospice gardens - from planting new flowers, mowing the grass and so much more. A huge thank you

Roberts Limbrick Ltd Charity Golf Day raises vital funds

We are incredibly grateful to have recently been a chosen charity to support at
Roberts Limbrick Ltd annual Golf Day at the beginning of June. An incredible £3,045 was raised for the hospice on the day which also included a fantastic auction.

A huge thank you to all involved, helping to raise such a transformative total. This fundraising will go so far in helping us to continue providing free of charge, compassionate and comprehensive care to those facing life limiting illnesses

Blue Lamp Lodge fundraising

It was lovely to meet Malcolm and Mike to celebrate an incredible donation from Blue Lamp Lodge. We are hugely grateful to be the selected charity to receive £500 from various fundraising throughout 2024 and 2025.

Thank you to all involved for such valued support that makes a real impact.

Pontnewydd Ladies and Male Choir Concert in aid of St David's Hospice Care

This month, it was lovely to visit Pontnewydd Ladies Choir yesterday to celebrate their hugely successful fundraising concert with Pontnewydd Male Choir. The concert was held earlier in June at St Hilda's Church Hall, in loving memory of member Jan Walters. The evening was a huge success with a full audience enjoying such a special performance.

A huge thank you to all involved, raising an outstanding £1,176 for St David's Hospice Care - a total that will make a huge impact, helping us to continue being there for those who need us.
