Lowri's 100 miles 

On Saturday 25th July Hospice Hero Lowri took on an incredible cycle challenge for St David's Hospice Care, in loving memory of Mum Lisa - who has cared for by the Hospice.

Lowri embarked on an outstanding cycle from New Quay in West Wales, back home to Newport South Wales, covering 100 miles for the 10 months Lowri has been without her mum - 10 miles for every month. Over the weekend of the 25th July, Lowri successfully completed the challenge: thousands of ft of elevation, just over 100 miles and hours of riding later raising so far a transformative £3,900!

Lowri shared "I’m overjoyed with all the support and kindness I’ve received in the run up to and the days of the ride. The conditions were great, the challenge was hard, but definitely worth it - and my mum would be so pleased with the atmosphere that I came home to after 100 miles."

Team Nic Charity Night

Team Nic hosted a hugely successful charity fundraising night this month in support of the Hospice, continuing their inspiring fundraising in loving memory of Nichala Gallivan

Taking place on 11th July at the Greyhound Pub, Newport the evening was hugely popular and well received bringing a night full of entertainment and fundraising. There was Live Music from the talented Jack Perrett and a huge raffle, as well as games throughout the evening.

Thank you to everyone's generosity - from attending the evening, buying raffle tickets, donating raffle prizes and to Team Nic for their unwavering support of the Hospice and time put into organising such a successful event. Over a phenomenal £2,000 has been raised!

Caerleon Running Club

Caerleon Running club recently selected St David's Hospice Care as the chosen charity to support with their 2026 5 Miler event

Taking place on 10th June, hundreds of runners took part in this popular run set against the breath-taking backdrop of Caerleon’s iconic amphitheatre.

A tremendous total of £918.75 was raised for the Hospice - a heartfelt thank you to all involved

Usk Open Gardens

St David's Hospice Care were incredibly grateful to once again be a selected charity supported at the 2026 Usk Open Gardens.

Each year the members of the Usk community open their gardens for the weekend for guests to come and view them - while donating to a number of charitable causes and we have been lucky enough to be selected as one of their charities to benefit

A truly wonderful £1,500 was donated to the Hospice, an amount that will make a meaningful difference to us and we are very grateful to receive. Keep an eye out for next years wonderful event!

3 Peaks of South Wales

On 4th July hundreds of dedicated walkers took part in our '3 Peaks of South Wales' Event - with their teams of 5 aiming to Conquer the 3 iconic peaks of South Wales in 10 hours.

Over the day, participants challenged themselves to scale Pen Y Fan, the Sugarloaf and Twmbarlwm in a 10 hour window whilst raising vital funds for the Hospice! A huge well done and thank you to all who took part - you're Hospice Heroes.

Fundraising Concerts

We have been very fortunate to be supported with some lovely concerts recently, with talented musicians across our community coming together for good.

Monmouth Concert Orchestra held their Annual Concert 'Countries, Towns and Cities' with the evening holding a collection for the Hospice. The concert took place at Usk Memorial Hall on 21st June and was a great success, filled with music!

C J Singers also held a popular concert, taking place on the 18th June 'You Must Remember This' - an evening full of music over the years! We welcomed members to the Hospice this month to celebrate their fundraising total of a tremendous £543.

Gardening Volunteers

Teams from Barclays and St James's Place visited our Newport Hospice throughout July to volunteer their time at our Gardens.

With the warmer weather we have been busy ensuring our garden spaces remain a lovely place for all to enjoy and we are very thankful to all colleagues who visited this month. From weeding, watering, and more we couldn't be more grateful!

Wayne's Challenge

At the beginning of July Wayne returned from completing a truly immense challenge - a 500 mile, solo, cycle challenge across 10 consecutive days

Departing from Chepstow Castle towards the finish line of Chester, along the way facing many challenges from a new bike wheel, weather and so much more. This ride was in loving memory of Gail who was supported by the Hospice - Wayne shared "The greater organisation as a whole assisted us in so many ways, removing a lot of pressure and stress [...] they were a Beacon of light in our darkest hours."

Over an incredible £2,700 has been raised from this immense challenge. Every mile, every pound and every peddle means we can continue to provide such vital care and support during some of the most challenging times.

Pen-Y-Fan 100 times in 1 day

36 colleagues from Admiral, CSI department climbed Pen-Y-Fan 100 times in ONE day this month!

Pen y Fan is the highest mountain in southern Britain at 886 metres (2,907 feet), highlighting the true show of determination, team effort and dedication a huge well done to all. 

This incredible challenge was completed to raise funds for both St David's Hospice Care and Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice. Raising over a brilliant £3,500 for the Hospice.

Fundraising Sale

It was lovely to have a visit from Lyn, June and Maria to our Newport Hospice in July with a wonderful donation!On 6th June a popular Charity Sale was held to raise funds for St David's Hospice Care and Heart Link. The day brought a great opportunity to donate items as well as find yourself something new from others, and enjoy a day of community spirit raising £425. Thank you so very much!

CRANE Charitable Fund

St David's Hospice Care are very grateful to have been a selected charity, benefitting from the CRANE charitable fund once again this year.

It was lovely to celebrate a wonderful amount of $3,400.00 ( £2,471.53) donated, at our Newport site this month. CRANE have been hugely valued supporters of the hospice through the CRANE Fund over many years, making a meaningful and lasting difference to us.

Community Donations

Out in the Community we had many special donations to support our care, this July

A special thank you to Prosecco & Purls and TRACS (Towards Restoring A Caerleon Station)

Linked with TRACS campaigning, the very talented Prosecco & Purls group crafted an incredible post-box topper to raise awareness outside Caerleon's Post Office. TRACS kindly donated £100, with Prosecco & Purls selecting St David's Hospice Care as the beneficiary for this.

We recently visited Mayfield Residential Home to receive an incredibly kind donation from Chris. Chris had organised a lovely fish & chip lunch with a singer for residents, whilst also generously donating £300 to the Hospice, in loving memory and in recognition of the care and support of mother Joyce from both the Hospice and Mayfield

Alex Vaisey Memorial Match

This Month, Community Fundraiser Abi visited P.I.L.C.S to celebrate another incredible fundraising day held in loving memory of Alex Vaisey.

On 11th July, the annual football tournament and day was held bringing the community together and raising vital funds, including a raffle on the day too. An incredible £3,757.70 was raised that will make a huge difference. A special thank you to all involved from sponsors, visitors, organisers and more - we are so appreciative.
