Curran Family Kolor Dash Fundraising

We had the pleasure of meeting the Curran family this month to celebrate incredible fundraising for the hospice. Dad, Tom, is currently receiving palliative care from our Clinical Nurse Specialist Jayne, while his three children—Seren (15), Ffion (12), and Griff (7) - are being supported through our Unicorn service.

During a recent visit to the hospice for an appointment, Ffion spotted a poster for our upcoming Kolor Dash event on August 27th. Inspired, the family decided they would like to take part in the run and raise vital funds for us, as we continue to support their dad.

Usk Open Gardens

Taking place on June 28th & 29th, 21 gardens collectively raised £15,620 to benefit 21 gardener nominated charities, by opening up their private gardens and showcasing incredible flowers, plants and spaces at Usk Open Gardens.

St David's Hospice Care are incredibly grateful to be a selected charity again this year, with an incredible donation of £1,500. This amount will make a huge difference to the hospice and we are so grateful for such wonderful continued support over so many years.

Charity Evening raising vital funds for the hospice

A wonderful Charity Evening was held on Friday 27th June, hosted by Russell Shankland and Mark Harris at The Nags Head, Tredegar. The evening included guest speaker Andy Powell, and raised an incredible £800 for the hospice!

Tesco Stronger Starts

We're pleased to share that our Unicorn Project is one of the selected community projects in Tesco's Stronger Starts Fund and we need your help by voting for us! Voting is open now until 30th September 2025. You can cast your vote using a blue token given at the check-out each time you shop - placing your blue token in the voting unit in participating stores

The Unicorn Service aims to help children and young people to access the support they need to manage the impact on them when a significant adult in their lives is seriously ill or has died - helping find ways to communicate and express emotions safely.

Hospice Nurses complete their Abseil for Companion Bed Fundraiser

Our incredible Hospice Nurses braved their 80ft Abseil! This thrilling challenge took place at Llangattock Escarpment high above the Usk Valley, with wide ranging views across the Black Mountains.

The team of 7 shared "The day began with a bit of a drizzle and overcast skies, but as the sun broke through the clouds, so did our spirits. The breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape made the experience even more memorable. Each nurse faced their nerves head-on, and despite the initial anxiety, the camaraderie and support from one another turned the challenge into an unforgettable adventure."

We are incredibly proud of our nurses and deeply grateful to everyone whose support has enabled the purchase of the companion bed. The use of this bed will make a lasting, positive difference to patients and loved ones.

Llanfoist Fawr Primary School Fun Run Fundraising

Well done and thank you to all at Llanfoist Fawr Primary School for being Hospice Heroes and raising vital funds this July. Recently, the whole school came together for an afternoon to take on a 'Fun Run' at the school - students completed laps around the grounds,
many in brilliant fancy dress and raised sponsorship for the hospice.

Community Fundraiser Abi visited to share more about the difference fundraising makes and celebrate an incredible total raised of £2,042.24!

3 peaks of Wales, Dragon boat race and British & Irish Lions Rugby Lunch

The start of July, saw the return of The 3 Peaks of Wales - where teams climbed 3 of the highest peaks in Wales in 24 hours: Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan.

We finished June, with our Dragon Boat Race - a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping, water sport where teams raced in large, dragon-headed canoes. Crews of up to 10 paddled in pairs over 250m distances! Our very own Hospice team took part 'Paddles for Patients' and raised vital funds.

Friday 18th July, we hosted an afternoon celebrating the British & Irish Lions before they face off against the Wallabies in the Australian tour 2025 with compere Phil Steele and former Lions teammates and Welsh legends Adam Jones and Richard Hibbard.

Volunteering at our Hospice Gardens

Summer was busy at our hospice gardens, with lots of wonderful support from local organisations and businesses volunteering their time to maintain our hospice gardens.

From planting, weeding, cutting the grass and so much more; we are so grateful to all who supported this month. We had a team from Admiral, who also brought along donations for the In-Patient Unit, which were very gratefully received, alongside two teams from Barclays and NielsenIQ.

Fundraising Match In Memory Of Alex Vaisey

It was lovely to meet Mike this month, to mark another incredible year of support In Loving Memory of Alex Vaisey.

A commemorative football day and match was held in June raising an outstanding £3,799.78 for St David's Hospice Care . A heartfelt thank you to all who supported and were part of this very special event - we are so grateful for such valued support and fundraising that makes a huge difference.

CRANE supports the hospice with another incredible donation

St David's Hospice Care are incredibly grateful to CRANE for their hugely valued, continued support with another incredible donation to the hospice. We recently visited Crane's site in Cwmbran to receive a cheque of $4,500 - a remarkable total that will make a significant difference!

All of our care is, always, free of charge, and such donations are vital to the hospice helping us to continue being there for those who need us. Thank you
