Hospice Nurses exceptional fundraising secures Companion Bed
24th June 2025
By Fundraising Team
The companion bed is now in place at our purpose built In-Patient Unit on Blackett Avenue, Newport.
Near the beginning of the year a wonderful team of hospice nurses set out on a fundraising mission, with a target of £15,000, to enable the purchase of a Companion Bed at our In-Patient unit.
St David's Hospice Care was fortunate enough to have been loaned this bed on the ward and it was quickly realised the invaluable positive impact and difference this bed made for staff, patients and their loved ones.

We are so incredibly proud to share that thanks to the dedication and determination of our incredible team of hospice nurses alongside such generous support from so many valued donors and the wider community - the fundraising target was reached to enable the purchase of a Companion Bed which has now arrived at our In-Patient Unit.
This remarkable bed, designed to extend and enable loved ones to cuddle up close and lie next to one another, will make an enormous difference for patients and families when here with us; it offers not just enhanced safety and comfort with the technology it offers but also the simple, powerful gift of closeness, without barriers, when it truly matters most.
To all our nurses who went the extra mile to fundraise over the last few months, hosting many great events and to every supporter who gave so generously to enable us to reach this significant target: thank you, from all at St David's Hospice Care. Because of you, we can continue to bring dignified, comprehensive and compassionate care to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
Our team of nurses are not stopping there - On Saturday 28th June they will be taking on their long-awaited abseil. Due to unforeseen circumstances they will now be bravely scaling down the Llangattock Escarpment, high above the Usk Valley!
Good luck to the team taking on this challenge and once again - a heartfelt thank you to all involved for this truly inspirational and powerful cause.
