The Night Shift Appeal
Without the Hospice at Home service, many families would simply not be able to fulfil their loved ones wishes to die in their own home. Please help us to maintain this vital service, we need to ensure our nurses are safe and warm when working.
Our nurses work over 5000 night shifts a year, providing patients in South East Wales with free hospice care at home.
Without the Hospice at Home service, many families would simply not be able to fulfil their loved ones' wishes to die in their own home. Please help us continue our hospice at-home service throughout the night.
Meet Mel, one of our Hospice at Home Nurses
Mel works on our Hospice at Home team and cares for patients and families during the night in their own homes.
Mel works from 10pm to 7am and will care for our patients in all the geographical areas that we cover. Mel works with a team of Hospice at Home nurses who all deliver this amazing care during their night shift.
One family told us...
"As soon as the nurse arrived at the house everything felt better, like we could cope. Someone was there with us who brought calmness and just knew what to do. It meant we could do the right thing for mum, which was to keep her at home. It was where she wanted to be."
As a family, we felt supported and we had total faith in the care offered.
I was able to get some sleep for the first time in what felt like a long time, reassured that mum was being well looked after. It gave me the rest I needed so I could cope through the days.
It meant so much to have someone there who could guide us through such an incredibly difficult time, making sure we did everything right by mum.
