Complementary Therapist Volunteer Role Description

 Criteria Required

·    Qualification in Anatomy and Physiology

·    Completed Qualification/certification in 1 or more of the following therapies.

·    Aromatherapy/Reflexology/Massage (Swedish), Reiki

·    Current Insurance of £3 million

·   Availability to commit to regular weekly sessions in One clinical setting.

·   Flexibility to work alone and as part of a team.

·    Available to attend 3 monthly meetings (usually Wednesday afternoons in Newport)

·    Own Transport to get to location.

 Additional Information

All volunteer therapists are invited to an informal interview to meet the complementary therapy Clinical Lead.

Following successful interview meeting, Volunteer therapists are invited to complete a 3-month probation period, this time will be used for training and observation of how treatments are adapted in a clinical setting.  During the mentorship training period new volunteers will observe and give treatments in a few settings, i.e. Day Hospice/Clinics/Domiciliary and the Bedded unit.

To work alone with our patients, you will be required to successfully complete this probation period and have a full DBS check returned.

For certain volunteering roles which involve contact with vulnerable people, including children or patients of St. David’s Hospice Care, you are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which are for other purposes 'spent' under the provisions of the Act. Successful applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure Application at enhanced level for submission to the Disclosure Barring Service. St. David's Hospice Care complies fully with the DBS Code of Practice and the Data Protection Act 1998 regarding disclosure information. Any information given will be treated as completely confidential and will only be considered in terms of its relevance to an application for positions to which the order applies. A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining a position. If you have any concerns or queries on this matter, please seek advice from the HR Manager.
