JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
To deliver a high quality palliative care complementary therapy service within all areas of the hospice.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills and be able to use their own initiative whilst working as part of a multi professional team.
Principal duties will include the following:
- To perform all the functions of the post to comply with St David’s Hospice Care policies, aims and guidelines.
- To manage an individual caseload and associated administrative tasks in an effective way, using IT systems and software as appropriate.
- To assess and develop a complimentary therapy treatment plan which responds to the needs and circumstances of patients.
- To communicate effectively with all clinical staff and management.
- To allocate referrals and organise appointments for all patients within St David’s Hospice response times.
- To complete all necessary paperwork and statistics and additional reports as required by management team to a high standard
- To participate in the education, research and development programme within St Davids Hospice
- To assist and support the work of the volunteers in the team and provide opportunities for development

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical
· Ensure the efficient and effective referral system is maintained
· Provide hands on complementary therapies
· Ensure that all patient notes and data are recorded as per St David’s Hospice policies and procedures
· Ensure good communication between the therapists and clinical staff is maintained at all times
· Ensure the efficient control, supply and storage of complementary therapy resources, e.g. oils, equipment, music and paper rolls
· Comply with the St David’s Hospice Complementary Therapies code of conduct
· Comply with the requirements of Professional Code of Conduct
· Encourage the use of research in further development of complementary therapies
· To attend team and other meetings as required
Education
· Advise the multidisciplinary team on the roles of available complementary therapies to enable teams to make referrals
· Be aware of current developments in palliative care and the implications on clinical practice within the organization
· Participate in staff education programmes if required.
General
· Demonstrate personal development and growth
· Maintain the confidentiality of all St David’s Hospice patient information in accordance with Policies and Procedures

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications And Training
Minimum Qualifications
· Degree or recognised accredited qualification in specified therapy. i.e Massage, Reflexology or Aromatherapy
· Can evidence study of Anatomy and Physiology
Essential Skills/Attributes
· Degree in Complementary Healthcare (or equivalent) or 2 or more years substantial private practice.
· Excellent communication including - Verbal, Written, Presentation.
Desirable Skills/Attributes
· Experience of complementary therapy in a hospital or palliative care setting
· Organisational skills
· Computer literacy
Transport
· A full clean UK driving license and access to a car is essential
Additional
· This post carries with it a requirement to have DBS clearance at an enhanced level.
· Post holder must be registered with an appropriate professional body
· Post holder must be a fully insured complementary therapist
