Dr Chris Gaffney
Chris graduated in Medicine from Bristol in 1976 and, following training posts at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Bristol and Newcastle-upon-Tyne spent a year in Vancouver, Canada doing research. He was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Velindre Hospital in 1989 and spent more than 20 years looking after patients with cancer in Gwent as well as in Cardiff. During that time he worked very closely with specialist nurses from St David’s Hospice Care. He represented the Royal College of Radiologists in Wales and as such was responsible for the training of new Oncologists. He also contributed to NICE guidelines for both breast and head and neck cancers which were his main specialties. Since retiring in 2010 he has devoted much time to gardening, painting and drawing.
